I've recorded a 1080p 60fps video of one of the later levels of the first world in Speebot.

If you've been following the development of the game, you may notice some new additions and improvements that I haven't talked about before!

The game is almost at the stage where I can make a demo of the first few levels for people to play. I want to finish some music tracks for the early parts of the game before that, though.

What do you think about it so far?

It's been a year since I've started working on a custom 3D game engine called YUME. At first, I knew nothing about OpenGL or 3D game development in general, so it has been a very tough, but very rewarding learning experience. In fact, making this engine is the hardest thing I've ever done.

Today, YUME is powering the game that I'm currently working on - Speebot. The game is far from completion, but the engine has come a long way!

I thought I'd use this chance to give a basic rundown of what the engine can do.

World 1 of Speebot is done - complete with all 50 levels and an ending cinematic. Three more to go!

I'm taking a break from level design to focus on music for a while. Just like with Hypnorain, I'm doing all the soundtrack for Speebot myself and using SunVox to accomplish that.

Squeezing out more performance out of my game Speebot by optimizing my game engine YUME.

After some testing, I can finally conclude that my game can be run on an average gaming PC in at least 5 separate windows at more than an acceptable framerate. The scene is a flythrough of a game level, and it utilizes most of the engine's capabilities, such as dynamic shadows, lighting, water reflections, particles and skeletal animation.

Perhaps a bit of an overkill, but it sure feels good.

World 1 of Speebot is nearing completion! As I've mentioned earlier, there will be 4 worlds altogether, totaling in 200 levels (and perhaps a few secret ones).
